Industry Week

Participating in the NTU Creative Futures Industry Week provided me with valuable insight into the fashion industry and the skills needed to succeed within it. Through a series of talks from established professionals including Sedge Beswick, Robyn Marie Pennant, Arooj Aftab, and Sophie Howarth, I developed a deeper understanding of community building, personal branding, networking, and career development within fashion and marketing.

 

The experience highlighted the importance of confidence, adaptability, and passion when entering the creative industry, while also encouraging me to approach my future career with greater ambition and motivation. Listening to professionals speak openly about their career journeys reinforced my enthusiasm for fashion marketing and strengthened my understanding of the industry’s fast-paced and evolving nature.

Social Media Manager

I was offered the opportunity to gain experience in digital marketing and social media management through working with Greenspaces Landscaping. Within this role, I contributed to managing the company’s social media presence by creating engaging content, assisting with website updates, and handling customer bookings and enquiries.

 

Although I was learning on the job and working within a business outside of the fashion industry, the experience challenged me to think differently by creating content for a completely different target audience and demographic than I am usually familiar with. This helped me develop adaptable communication and marketing skills, while gaining a stronger understanding of how different businesses engage with their audiences online.

Content Creator

Working alongside the manager at Rose Farm Shop, I supported the development of the business’s social media presence by helping bring her creative vision to life through digital content and online promotion. My role involved creating engaging social media content, showcasing products, and helping communicate the brand’s welcoming and community-focused identity.

 

This experience allowed me to strengthen my creativity, communication, and content creation skills while learning how to adapt my approach to suit a completely different audience and business style outside of the fashion industry. Collaborating closely with the manager gave me valuable insight into understanding a brand’s identity and translating this effectively across digital platforms.
