Second S kin Magazine

The final outcome for my Second Skin problem opportunity report was the development of a conceptual magazine that explores the relationship between skincare, identity, and societal expectations. Inspired by No7 skincare, the magazine presents a curated mix of visuals, editorial content, and branding that reflects both the empowering and pressurising aspects of the beauty industry. I aimed to create a visually engaging and thought-provoking piece that highlights how skincare acts as a “second skin,” influencing confidence and self-perception while responding to wider beauty standards placed on women.

Mission

The mission behind my Second Skin magazine is to empower women to feel confident in their own identity and not feel limited by the societal expectations placed upon them. Through this outcome, I aimed to create a message of hope and encouragement, reminding women not to give up on their goals or reshape themselves to fit unrealistic beauty standards. Inspired by No7 skincare, the magazine challenges traditional ideals by promoting individuality, self-acceptance, and the idea that beauty and success should be defined on personal terms rather than external pressures.

Vision

I chose to create digital imagery to capture real, unfiltered moments in time, allowing the concept to feel authentic and emotionally connected rather than overly staged. This approach reflects the core idea of “Second Skin” as something natural and lived-in, rather than artificial or constructed. Through these visuals, I wanted to express the idea that our “second skin” is not just what we apply on the surface, but the confidence and strength we carry within ourselves.

 

Inspired by the symbolism of a leopard, I explored the idea of wearing this inner strength with pride—embracing individuality, boldness, and self-assurance. Just like a leopard’s skin is distinctive and unapologetic, my concept encourages women to own their identity confidently and resist the pressure to conform to societal expectations.
